Norberto graduated in Physics from the “Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEM)”. He did his Bachelor thesis in the “Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Nucleares (ININ)” where he was involved on the study of propagation of electromagnetic waves in plasmas. In 2000, Norberto obtained his PhD degree in Sciences (Optics) from the “ Centro de Investigaciones en Óptica, A.C. (CIO)”. During his doctoral studies, he worked on the topic of second harmonic generation at semiconductor surfaces. Soon after, he joined, as a posdoctoral fellow, the Professor Sipe's group in the Department of Physics of the University of Toronto. Research Interests:

Optical Properties of Surfaces and Nanostructures.

 I am joined to the group of Optical properties of nanostructures, surfaces and interfaces     (PRONASIS), wherein we are interested in the theoretical study of surfaces and nanostructures. We performed numerical calculations of the linear and nonlinear response of these structures. In particular, on the one hand, we apply the optical techniques of reflectance anisotropy and second harmonic generation in order to study surfaces. On the other hand, we are interested on the optical study of nanostructures, such as nanotubes, nanoclusters, graphene-like structures, through calculations of their linear and nonlinear susceptibilities.

 Photonic Crystal Fibers

I am colaborating with the group of Optical fibers of CIO, wherein we are interested in the study of both index-guiding and hollow-core photonic crystal fibers. We are interested not only in the design of  PCF that have particular dispersion and nonlinear properties but also in the nonlinear effects   that take place during the propagation of pulses along the fiber.
